Aroc: As you can see I am definitely getting this game . From the discussion on this board, I can see that Brown and Wine Cracker are getting it too, so is chillz. Also, the voting poll of this thread shows that 6 + 2 out of 20 who voted are getting this game on XBox One. In general, I expect any CoD fan who already has an XBox One to buy this game. After all, the two games are quite similar and Titanfall has been hailed by press as the "first killer app on XBox One". I suggest the following: for each game, create a new thread in the sub forum "Other Games" to get discussions going. Once there are enough interest and one thread seems too crowded, we can create a dedicated sub forum. I am really excited about the upcoming game "Destiny" by Bungie, the next big bet by ActiVision. It would be great to play the beta and the final version of this game with clan friends, because it has both strong cooperative as well competitive multiplayer components. I am planning to start a new thread once the beta date is set.

Titanfall will have the following game modes:
Attrition: TDM variant, killing AI/Pilot/Titan will all contribute to the score Capture the Flag: not much is known about this game mode, I assume very similar to CoD CTF. Hardpoint Domination: almost the same as CoD DOM Last Titan Standing: everybody starts in their Titans, only have one life (kinda similar to SnD without the bomb) Pilot Hunter: TDM variant, only pilot kills will contribute to the score

Some of those maps look really big. I didn't get a chance to play the beta witty.... what are your feelings? I know a bit about the game, it's CoD roots, does it give you a bit of a CoD feel? In terms of the pacing and action? even on the bigger maps?

Some of those maps look really big. I didn't get a chance to play the beta witty.... what are your feelings? I know a bit about the game, it's CoD roots, does it give you a bit of a CoD feel? In terms of the pacing and action? even on the bigger maps? To answer your question, I need to explain a little bit how Titan works first: 1) Players play as "pilots"; 2) Pilots can either fight on foot, or fight inside a Titan. When on foot, pilots can do crazy movements like "double jump", "wall walk", and "wall hang"; 3) Titans become available when the count down timer reaches zero. At the start of the game, the timer is set 3 minutes 30 seconds (if I remember correctly). If your Titan is destroyed, you'll get another one in 2 minutes; 4) Killing and achieving objectives will speed up the Titan construction (in other words, shave off time from the timer); 5) Titan can be put in Auto Pilot mode, in this case it is controlled by a (not bad) AI and can either follow the pilot or guard a location; 6) Besides Titans and Pilots, the maps are also populated with AI elements: "grunts" and "spectres"; 7) Grunts are very easy to kill, and they can't do the special pilot movements; 8) Spectres are also very easy to kill, but they can do the special movements; Now let me answer your question: i) Titanfall vs. CoD a) Pilot vs. Pilot gunfight is almost identical to CoD, here you can clearly see Titanfall's CoD root. b) Regular pilot movement is almost identical to CoD. c) Special movement of course is entirely new. 2) Titans This is another entire new element. You can: 1) fight inside Titans (you can jump out Titans any time, and "eject" from Titans when it is severely damaged) 2) fight along side your Titans; 3) fight against Titans on foot, using your anti-Titan weapon (usually not a good idea); 4) jump on top of the Titan, and kill Titan by shooting its brain (this move is called "rodeo"); Titan vs. Titan fights are quite drawn out battles, not the kind of twitch shooting experience like you would have in CoD or Pilot vs. Pilot. 3) AIs The inclusion of AI is also entirely new. With this they are trying to achieve the following goals: 1) keep the maps populated with "shootable" elements. This way 6v6 can play OK on maps of all sizes, with or without Titan; 2) make the game more fun for less skilled players. Even if they can't effectively kill other pilots, they can easily deal with the AIs and still contribute to the team; 3) reduce camping and keep players moving around at all times (because of 2); The biggest negative about this design is you don't get to encounter other pilots as often as you want. For example, the most pilot kills I had in a game during beta is 10. You won't be able to have 50+ / 100+ kill games like you could in CoD.

What is the game 'flow' like?
Like does the action keep up? Is it more like a BF4 where conquest mode, where I might have an encounter every minute. Or more like a small CoD map, where one is getting six encounters per minute.
How about spawns? Nice feel to it, in terms of generally knowing where the opponents will be? Or is a completely clusterfuck of not knowing where to go?

Or more like a small CoD map, where one is getting six encounters per minute. How about spawns? Nice feel to it, in terms of generally knowing where the opponents will be? Or is a completely clusterfuck of not knowing where to go? 1) Let's talk about pace and encounter rate separately, because they are different for this game. The game has great pace, this is one of the most praised pros over CoD that are hailed by the community, due to the following factors: a) the special moves speed up everybody and encourage movement; b) the addition of AIs and the time race to get to Titans encourage players to move around instead of camping, regardless the skill level. Say I am a player who has never played any FPS in my life, when I play this game I am still going to run around the map shooting AIs (they even have a special weapon called "smart pistol" that does auto aiming for me so I don't have to do it myself But don't worry, this weapon is not OP because it is good at killing AIs but not so good at killing pilots due to the long "auto aim" time) so I can get to my Titan faster. encounter rate is a different story: a) If you count both Pilots (both inside and outside of Titans) and AIs, the encounter rate is very high; b) If you only count Pilot vs. Pilot outside of Titans, the encounter rate is low; Below are the typical response from an experienced CoD player who played Titanfall beta: i) At the beginning: "the game flow is so smooth, the game pace is so great, so much fun"; ii) After playing the game for some time: "I wish the encounter rate with pilots can be higher, still a great game, but..." As a result, I consider this game a great complement to CoD ghosts, not a CoD killer. If I get bored with one, I can switch to the other and have a familiar but also quite different experience. 2) Spawn Titanfall has great spawn systems, because a) the map is pretty big for 6v6 action, so they have an easier job to deal with spawns; b) the AIs, although pretty dumb to fight against, can serve as "beacons" to guide you to where the enemy pilots are (there is an ability you can equip to always highlight all AIs as red dots on the map); c) because of the vertical movement system, the maps can be considered truly "3D" rather than "2D". This makes maps design more interesting and spawn implementation easier; 3) Other things that are worth noting Since this game is an XBox exclusive, they are able to take advantage of Microsoft's support of dedicated servers. So yes, all games are hosted by "dedis". All games I played with feel very smooth. One thing I am concerned about though is how it would work if we have a party of players from different timezones. I am on the west coast, if I am playing with you guys on the east coast, would I get screwed?

Witty: The group I come from is primarily West Coast and NYC players (They are all ex MS employees). They all moved on to the Xbone and played the heck out of the BETA. The NYC guys did say there were issues when playing with the Seattle guys, but it wasn't terrible. I would expect this is because of the infrequency of Pilot v Pilot encounters.
Did the Xbone get the PING count similar to the PC, so you could tell what type of connection you were getting to your server?

When I play solo, I was given an list of options to choose, along with a ping (e.g.: west cost, 32 ms, east cost 70ms, don't take the numbers here seriously because I can't remember the exact value). I assume that when playing with a party, it is up to the party leader to choose that on behalf of everybody in the party.
