(now I got your attention with an obscure title ) Would you be interested in playing it? If not, you can stop reading now. Otherwise, let's talk about one of the most anticipated and hugely hyped game of 2014 - Destiny What is Destiny?1) A game being developed by Bungie, the studio that built the Halo franchise; 2) A First Person Shooter, with core FPS game play & feel like Halo; 3) An open world RPG with story missions and character development, like Borderlands. Forming fire teams with friends and tackle bad guys together; 4) A "shared world" shooter (think MMO, but Bungie has insisted on not labeling the game with it) where all players play in a persistent shared world that they may bump into each other through seamless matchmaking to work on "quests"; 5) A huge sci-fi fantasy world to explore all over the solar system, including Earth, Moon, Mars, Venus, etc., with Next Gen graphics. The world is also quite dynamic, planned events will happen from time to time; 6) Competitive PvP multiplayer arena where players can fight each other like CoD and Halo MP. The TTK ("time to kill") design will be of middle ground between CoD and Halo: not as twitchy as CoD, and not as prolonged as Halo; 7) Published by ActiVision, the only company that can successfully make huge profit from FPS fans year after year. ActiVision is betting big on Destiny: signed a 10 year contract with Bungie and made the bold claim that this is going to be the next Billion Dollar franchise; Resource for people who are intrigued and want to learn more0) Official game play video (for the impatient who don't care about wall of text). Keep in mind this is only a very small sample of what the game is like. 1) Official Web Site: www.destinythegame.com/2) Reddit: www.reddit.com/r/DestinyTheGame/3) January cover reveal from gameinformer: www.gameinformer.com/games/destiny/b/playstation4/archive/2014/04/04/a-player-39-s-journey.aspx4) A great fan YouTube video to consolidate everything you want to know about the game (at the time of posting on 02/28/2014. Hugely popular within Destiny community circle, with ~277K views and ~17K likes): 5) Latest info from last week's press preview: www.reddit.com/r/DestinyTheGame/comments/244jid/destiny_press_week_article_hub/www.reddit.com/r/DestinyTheGame/comments/247z9n/new_confirmed_info_hub_news_blowout_edition

Extensive beta will be offered to anybody who preorder, timing unknown, most likely Mid June or early July. As a result, so far more than 700K preorders in USA region alone have been made across the 4 platforms (XONE/X360/PS4/PS3) on which the game will be released, according to vgchartz.comThe game's release date is set at 09/09/2014. As a gamer who started with Halo, a multi-year CoD player, and a recent Borderlands fan, I will definitely pick up this game (already preordered) and be looking for teammates to play together. Hit me up if you are interested.

I have a lot of faith in Bungie, so I will almost definitely get this. It will also be the impetus for me to get an Xbox One.

Cool, that's already 3 of us, enough for a fire team mal: if you want to play beta, you may need to plan the XONE purchase soon. Right now all pre-orders can get access to beta, but there is no telling when this offer will expire.

It looks pretty cool. I never liked the RPG thing but it seems it isn't too heavy on it. Gonna have to keep an eye on this, it might be the one that makes me pull the trigger on Xbone myself. Maybe they will have some bundles come out.

It looks pretty cool. I never liked the RPG thing but it seems it isn't too heavy on it. Gonna have to keep an eye on this, it might be the one that makes me pull the trigger on Xbone myself. Maybe they will have some bundles come out. For us CoD fans, we tend to be impatient and dislike the grind to level up characters in RPG. One of the "seven pillars of design" Bungie established at the very beginning of the development is "Enjoyable by the Impatient and Distracted", so addressing the concern above is right in the center of their focus. It has been revealed that On the other hand, people spending more time will still be handsomely rewarded: there are lots of weapons and gears to be earned and upgraded.
Reference: 7 pillars of design for Destiny, by Bungie: Pillar 1: A World Players Want to Be InJason Jones: "This pillar really influenced us early in development. Is this world cool? Do I want to stay here? Do I want to learn more about it?” Joseph Staten: "One lesson that’s critical is that the most important stories we tell aren’t going to be told by us. They’re going to be told by players – their personal legends built from shared adventures.” Pillar 2: A Bunch of Fun Things to Do(after describing a three-man dungeon run in detail): Joseph Staten: “And just like that, The Dust Palace becomes part of my story. The breadth and depth of Destiny’s world encourages me to find my own adventures. It’s a place where I can leave my mark.” Pillar 3: Rewards Players Care AboutJones explained how the game will have “a lot of great things to earn, find, and make,” reiterating that “everything you do in Destiny earns rewards.” Besides unique weapons, every piece of your kit will be your own, from your helmet to your cape to your armor pieces to your face. Their goal, he said, is to keep players coming back “day after day, week after week, month after month, [and] year after year.” Pillar 4: A New Experience Every NightJason Jones: “Imagine you could spend an hour and accomplish something, but you get distracted from doing the thing you meant to do when you logged on. Every time you sit down to play Destiny you have a different experience than last time.” Pillar 5: Shared With Other PeopleJason Jones: “Everything that’s fun to do is more fun to do with your friends.'” Pillar 6: Enjoyable By All Skill LevelsJason Jones: "All core activities can be enjoyed by a novice player, that's not hard. What’s hard is keeping it interesting for your advanced players.” Pillar 7: Enjoyable by the Impatient and DistractedJason Jones: “Players don’t want to work hard, they don’t want to read, and they don’t’ want to go to the Internet to figure out our bullshit.”

Also, I know most of the bros here care more about competitive MP, or PvP. Not much info have been given, but below are what I know so far:
1) On unlocking Multiplayer: "In Destiny you can't jump into competitive multiplayer as soon as you pop the disc in the drive - a key point of difference with Bungie's Halo. You have to unlock PvP, but once you've done so with one character, all characters tied to your account can play PvP without restriction. According to Green, you need to play a couple of hours, tops, to unlock PvP. And that's only on your first character."
2) On concerns about fairness in PvP: ""we have a lot of best-of-class practices to make sure that the matches are as fair as possible. The other thing that we do is make sure that when you are playing and you are experiencing the competitive multiplayer in Destiny you’re always improving and upgrading and receiving rewards. Obviously you want to win the game, but if there’s no way you can win this particular game, we’ve all had that experience in different games, you don’t come away from it with nothing. You come away with “I was really happy there because I managed to get kills on that guy even though he’s got this exotic weapon.” It’s really satisfying. So we reinforce that as well"
3) Also, Destiny is going to have skill based matchmaking, expecting to be at least as solid as Halo, if not more.

It's different but I like it. Too bad the release isn't until September... Beta should happen no later than early July (for XONE. Beta for PS4 will be earlier because Bungie and ActiVision are now buddies with Sony instead of MSFT), so not too far out. As a long time Halo player, I can see the familiar elements in the video: the 3 round burst, the shotty, the sniper, all have Halo feel all over it. New game play elements introduced are 1) "Super": a special ability that need to be charged (through kill I think) before can be used (e.g: the gold pistol, which does insane amount of the damage); 2) Special movement: double jump, glide, or jet pack 3) Cool melee moves (e.g.: the throwing knife)

The guy who did "everything you need to know" YouTube video back in February did a detailed analysis of the official game video as well:
Worth watching so you can have better understanding what's going on (best watched after watching his "everything you need to know" video, link posted in OP).
If after watching the video above you want to know more (e.g.: Focus, Super), check out this video:

Cool, that's already 3 of us, enough for a fire team mal: if you want to play beta, you may need to plan the XONE purchase soon. Right now all pre-orders can get access to beta, but there is no telling when this offer will expire. For bros who have not yet preordered, I suggest doing so before E3. Beta date is expected to be announced during E3, and I am sure that as soon as that happens lots of players will pre-order to get into beta. Since Bungie may have a limited number of slots for beta access, do so earlier than that will be wise. One not well known fact is that you can choose the platform to play beta, not necessarily the same platform that you preordered the game for. If you are still deciding on when to buy the XONE, you can preorder the game for XONE but play the beta on X360, and only buy the console and the game if satisfied with the experience. The best place to pre-order is probably Amazon: 1) you don't need to pay until when the game is shipped; 2) until then you can cancel any time.

I pre-ordered for Xbone. Will probably play the beta on 360, though. That's a wise decision I am sure that XONE is going to have further price cuts, no need to hurry until there is a game that you feel strongly to play on XONE. Destiny may or may not be it, we will have to see how beta goes.
