@stone: check out Titanfall sub-board on Den's forum for more info about this game: denkirson.proboards.com/board/1/titanfallSome quick thoughts after playing through 5 generations (generations = prestige in CoD) for CoD players, this game is designed to be "easy to get into", hard to master". It took me at least 2 full generations to really feel comfortable and can actually speak with confidence that I am no longer a noob. 1) Pilot fighting is very similar to CoD, with weapons that have less recoil, and players that have fast and vertical movement; 2) Titan fighting takes some time (I would argue more than 1 generations) to have a good feel. It has 3 aspects: a) Titan vs. Titan with complex fighting combo from primary weapon, ordinance, defense ability, dash ability, etc; b) Titan vs. Pilot (non-rodeo): Titans have tremendous advantage in this fight, and c) Titan vs. Pilot (rodeo): at the moment that a pilot jumps onto the Titan, an intense battle of quick thinking and gun skills commence as the two pilots are trying to out play each other. It's a lot of fun after you gained the experience; At the beginning, this stuff could feel very overwhelming. To simplify, you can put your Titans in auto mode and focus on the pilot stuff; 3) Lobby shopping can be very important due to how Titanfall's matchmaking works. See this thread for more details: denkirson.proboards.com/thread/7053/titanfall-matchmaking-news-discussionsAlso, we should party up some time. Brown, Sleezy, Aroc, Notardious and I play this game from time to time and we should try to get together more often.4) If you have difficulty finding pilots (which is very common for new players due to unfamiliarity with the maps), focus on the following simple formula: kill minions (use silenced Carbine + either Cloak or Stim ability); note: each kill shortens the Titan construction time -> get Titan (use Atlas for now) quickly; -> kill minions & pilots; note: each kill shortens the time to get to Titan's core ability -> gain core ability (for Atlas it is "damage core", which will increase weapon damage) -> fight Titans (40mm cannon is the best for new players) Last words: the deeper you get into the game's "finer details", the more fun it feels. Don't be alarmed if the first hour of game play does not feel up to the hype, keep playing and over time you'll see the gems.

@olmech and malgato: Stone's comments regarding Titanfall > Halo is mainly from the MP map/level design point of view. Halo's MP maps are quite dull aesthetically, while Titanfall's maps are without the doubt of the best quality in all categories: environment, graphics, playability, etc.

A rodeo rider will kill a titan in 10 seconds or less. Depending on starting health.

I will be gone all day Friday and Saturday. I am doing a race both days.
But I will be good to go for Sunday. Maybe we can get brown, aroc, etc..
I might try some tonight too.
I still need to figure out my headset situation too.

There's a thread devoted to headsets for the one. Check it out and I can be on Sunday. Never done a full group before.

This shit is starting to get REAL fun.
but the matchmaking blows. If you play solo, it seems like no matter what lobby resets you do, you keep getting dumped into shit games where it's 4 vs 5 or worse. Terrible fucking matchmaking.

Touching on the above. So after trying Ghosts last night, and that being a waste of time...I jumped over to TitanFall. I was only going to play a few games, and then hit the sack around 10:30pm. I ended up doing a marathon session until around 3am in the morning. Ughhh.
My above frustration was with getting stuck agsinst the same heavy hitter team repeatedly. There was a group of two G5 players, with a G4 and G3. Played them like three in a row. Then backed out to find a new lobby, ...boom, was right back with them. New lobby again, reset....ended back with them. Repeat this two to three more times. I must have gone like 0-9 against this hitters. But I did play those guys tough, being top of my team a few times. In fact, I made a HUGE improvement last night. I ended up top of the board a few times. Top three a number of times. Had a few games where I killed 4 to 8 pilots, plus titans. Had one game where I racked up like 59 grunt/spectre kills.
What helped me. I finally figured out big circles mean Pilots on my map! Duh. I also started to figure out the pod spawning system, how to get into the action a bit better. While the maps are bewildering still, I am getting the overall lay of the land, the frontline situation. I am also figuring out my guns a bit better. I used a sniper a good bit last night, plus some others. I finished up at or around level 30 (still first generation)
I will say this....the number of teeth gnashing &%*$#%$%^ moments in this game are farrrrrr less than CoD. The lag deaths are like, none. The game is so smooth. Douchebag KD whoring doesn't exist as far as I can tell. And the action is just constantly pushing. While a lot of your kills are grunts/spectres, it still can help your team win and it's still killing something. It makes the occasional human kill feel that much more fun. I can see after you play this a while, CoD might be difficult to adjust back too. The openness of TitanFall, (but yet with the CoD feel)...just makes playing Ghosts feel so slow and plodding. Not knocking Ghosts, as I have no clue how TitanFall will hold up in terms of keeping a long term interest.
I still don't have my Titan Jiu-Jitsu down that well. It seems that any time I get a Titan kill, it's mostly due to these two factors, 1) I get a 2 on 1 on an opponent, or 2) I close the gap on one, who is weaker, and grapple/pummel him to death. That's about it. Any medium to long range exchange of firepower just ends in a protracted shoot & cover exchange, with no one ever dying. Stalemate.
The graphic in this game are just incredible too, I have to say that again.

To add another thought after my six hour marathon session.
The openness of these maps is just awe inspiring. And I'm not just talking about their size and how it feels like you use ALL of the map, but yet how the action keeps going on and on at a frenetic pace in ALL of the map, with all of it being used. Like CoD Ghosts for example, the big map 'Seige' (that everyone hates). The map is huge and you look for people to kill. But you also very rarely use half of the map. It doesn't feel like that Titanfall. The maps seems about twice the size, but yet you use all of it, and one is never ever looking for action. It's amazing how they have pulled this off.
Here's another thing. The maps in CoD feel claustrophobic after playing TitanFall. You play Strikezone for example, and after a few games, it's the same three lanes, same couple patterns and spawn rotations. It's like that for every CoD map. Play a few games, every spot is wired down. But these maps on TitanFall, ...I feel like I can play this game the next year and never learn all the nooks and spots. And everything is so freaking OPEN. While there are 'lanes' to some degree, they are completely open.

Titanfall is a good game cod could learn a thing or two from them. I will be on this week and weekend. I need to regenerate some prestige here haha if you got time this weekend we should get a team together and level up probably much easier in numbers.

Stone: glad you like the game. As I mentioned before, the game is a bit tough for new players, but for you everything should fall into place after 1 generation or 2. All the difficulties you experienced, knowing the maps, finding pilots, Titan fights, dealing with rodeos..., everybody went through the same thing. Note of warning: extensive warm up is needed every time you switch between Titanfall and CoD. While the gun fight feels similar, the movement feels very different. Also, you can get spoiled by the almost lag free feeling of Titanfall, and slow to adjust to the laggy situations in CoD. Regarding matchmaking, use this strategy: denkirson.proboards.com/thread/7053/titanfall-matchmaking-news-discussionsWe should definitely party up. If you, aroc, brown, wine, sleazy and I can get together, we can really get into game modes beyond attrition (Hardpoint DOM, CTF, Last Titan Standing), do call outs, dominate the Titan fights with Titan+Titan and/or Titan+Pilot coordinations, etc.

What is your strategy on Titan vs Titan fighting?

What is your strategy on Titan vs Titan fighting? This is a hard topic that I don't think I am qualified to provide expert advices. I just started a thread on Den's Titanfall sub forum to let the real experts chime in, named "Let's discuss Titan fighting tactics!" Brown should definitely offer some advices. In the last game we played on Sunday, he had 8 Titan kills in an Attrition game! That's superb. I can't even get that many in a Last Titan Standing game. That said, I'll offer my two cents: my most favorite Titan fight set up is: Chasis: Atlas Primary: 40mm cannon (IMHO this is the most powerful weapon for fighting Titans. It was too good so they nerfed it a little bit, still very strong), unlock extended mags and equip that. Tactical Ability: Particle Wall Ordnance: Multiple Target Missile System (MTMS). Check out Den's tips on how to use this in the two threads I linked in my "Let's discuss Titan fighting tactics!" thread Tier 1 kit: Tactical Reactor Tier 2 kit: Core Accelerator Note: other than Chasis and Primary (which emphasizes fire power and damage output), all the rest can be changed to other choices. Strategy: 1) (this is often neglected due to the heat of battle, but is important) do whatever necessary to earn core ability. For Atlas, this is damage core, pretty much adding more damage to your weapons for a short period of time, making you a great force to be reckoned with. The easiest way to do this is to step on minions. Of course, killing pilots and scoring hits on Titans contribute greatly. 2) Use particle wall judiciously. Offensively speaking, ideally you want to do that when the enemy Titan is in a shooting lane that he can't easily back out from. Defensively speaking, well, that's easy. Drop it, turn around and run like hell 3) Use your cannon for main fight, and save Ordnance for the time when you are reloading. While reloading, shoot MTMS one at a time to keep the enemy Titan's shield from regenerating. MTMS is great in the sense that if you use it one at a time, you don't need to worry about lengthy reload time issue like other ordnance choices have. 4) As soon as you get damage core, you can go after enemy Titans more aggressively. Get into a good 1 on 1 encounter, and pound the enemy Titan relentlessly. General rules of thumb: 1) Keep your 2 dash in reserve if possible so you can get out of bad situations quickly; 2) Avoid getting into unfavorable situations: 1 on 2, you are in wide open area while the enemy Titan is behind good cover, get cornered by an Orge, etc. 3) Pay attention to the number of Titans on the battlefield. If your team have more Titans, go after enemy Titans aggressively. If the enemy team have more, avoid Titan fight and focus on minion farming;
