News is beginning to surface about the upcoming iteration by Sledgehammer games, but not much. A recent video..
Also from MP1st
Publisher Activision and developer Sledgehammer Games will announce the next Call of Duty game, code named “Blacksmith”, some time in May.
In addition to our info, the likelihood of an unveiling this May is quite high, considering some of Activision’s previous marketing tactics.
The first hints for Infinity Ward’s Call of Duty: Ghosts surfaced at this exact time last year when the official Call of Duty website was updated with an interactive mosaic, eventually filling to form the shape of the Ghosts’ iconic skull logo. The game’s first live-action teaser trailer was launched May 1, 2013. Similarly, Treyarch’s Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 was unveiled during the NBA Playoffs on May 1, 2012.
Call of Duty: “Blacksmith” is currently in development at Sledgehammer Games, the third studio to join Activision’s roster of Call of Duty-focused studios, including Treyarch and Infinity Ward.
The first image of Call of Duty: “Blacksmith” was teased last week, showing off a highly detailed rendering of a soldier’s face. It’s official title has yet to be determined.
mp1st.com/2014/05/01/new-call-duty-begins-may-4-new-teaser-site-launches/#.U2Lfn_ldXR8 www.callofduty.com/new-era Thats where the reveal trailer will be published Sunday
They really better bring it this time. There is a lot of competition out there or coming prior to the release. I personally don't think this time around that just because it is called COD that it will be a hit.

Info from Amazon UK product description (which I can no longer find, my guess is that Amazon made it public accidentally and then removed it) : www.charlieintel.com/2014/05/02/first-details-on-story-and-soldiers-of-advanced-warfare-revealed-by-amazon/Call of Duty Advanced Warfare, developed by Sledgehammer Games (co-developers of Call of Duty®: Modern Warfare® 3), harnesses the first three-year, all next-gen development cycle in franchise history. Call of Duty Advanced Warfare envisions the powerful battlegrounds of the future, where both technology and tactic have evolved to usher in a new era of combat for the franchise. Delivering a stunning performance, Academy Award® winning actor Kevin Spacey stars as Jonathan Irons – one of the most powerful men in the world – shaping this chilling vision of the future of war. Power Changes Everything. An Advanced World: Call of Duty Advanced Warfare takes place in a plausible future in which technological progress and today’s military practices have converged with powerful consequences. In this carefully researched and crafted vision of the future, Private Military Corporations (PMCs) have become the dominant armed forces for countless nations outsourcing their military needs, redrawing borders and rewriting the rules of war. And Jonathan Irons, the founder and president of the world’s largest PMC – Atlas Corporation – is at the center of it all. An Advanced Soldier: Powerful exoskeletons evolve every aspect of a soldier’s battle readiness, enabling combatants to deploy with an advanced lethality and eliminating the need for specialization. The introduction of this gameplay mechanic delivers enhanced player movement and verticality through boost jumps and grappling, covert cloaking abilities, and biomechanics that provide unparalleled strength, awareness, endurance, and speed. With the advent of the exoskeleton and newly advanced armor and weaponry, every soldier commands tactical freedom in any terrain unlike ever before. An Advanced Arsenal: Harnessing the power of next-gen platforms, Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare brings players into the battlegrounds of the future by boasting a new hi-tech, advanced arsenal and ability set, arming players with all-new equipment, technology, perks, and vehicles like hoverbikes and highly specialized drones. Players can also choose between standard ammunition and an all-new class of directed-energy weaponry that enables totally new gameplay dynamics. And with exoskeletons delivering a massive force multiplier and unprecedented tactical freedom, Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare evolves every firefight.

Must say thus far I'm not very impressed. I'm just not a fan futuristic military shooters. How I long for COD 4 and MW2.

Must say thus far I'm not very impressed. I'm just not a fan futuristic military shooters. How I long for COD 4 and MW2. Well, this picture says it all: Seriously speaking, CoD needs innovative movement systems, because every shooter is doing it: 1) Titanfall: double jump and wall run feel great; 2) Destiny: each of the 3 classes (Hunter, Titan, Warlock) has a special vertical move, and possibly a special horizontal move; 3) Borderlands pre-sequel: jet pack to enable double jump; The only way for CoD to have such systems is to become more "futuristic".

I'm fine with overly futuristic stuff in the single player, but I don't want too much of that in the multiplayer.

Or they could stick with what works. Although in general Titanfall is evolutionary not revolutionary to the FPS MP genre, its vertical movement is definitely very innovative. The movement itself is great fun to play with, and (along with populating the maps with NPCs) it also addresses one of the biggest issue in FPS MP: camping. In Titanfall, almost everybody is running around and you hardly see anybody camping, even the noobs. On top of that: the verticality and no fear of camping really freed the map designers and Titanfall's map quality is superb. CoD really needs to make a move in this area or risk becoming obsolete over time. Another issue is that CoD's success has always been built on its ability to attract new blood, aka noobs. This establishes an ecosystem for the veterans to stomp less experienced players and non-noobs to stomp noobs. The majority of the CoD fans play the game because of the stomp, either in terms of K/D or W/L. To attract noobs, just the core formula is not enough. New things have to be added to lure people in.

I'm gonna respectfully disagree with you here. Going vertical has been around a long time since unreal tournament. Matter of fact it existed before call of duty and the franchise got big inspite of not hopping around like an idiot. I think a large portion of that was people that wanted to beat up on friends with guns they've heard of or seen in movies. This new change I don't think will hold up. Its Titanfall with more money. I don't get it.

The Halo franchise tried to add a bunch of this "innovative" stuff - armor abilities, jet packs (verticality), and other shenanigans. I think Halo got significantly worse for it. Sometimes a franchise is successful because they know what they are good at and they stay true to that formula.

It's an interesting debate we are having here. The key question is: for a successful franchise like CoD or Halo, should developers keep the core "combat sandbox" intact, or introduce new elements from time to time?
Personally I don't have a strong opinion. The point I was trying to make is that if no new elements are added (with vertical movements as an example), the franchise will risk losing its ability to attract new players. The existing fans might be happy and even strongly prefer that, but the game developers always want to make the next game in the franchise to look "more interesting" outside of its existing fan base.
Bungie with Halo Reach and 343 Industries with Halo 4 attempted on that. The are perceived as failures because existing fans don't like them, and they were not able to attract fresh blood to the franchise. However, we would never know what would have happened if they did not do that. Are the games going to be more successful? If Halo 4 plays just like Halo 3, what would be the main reasons to push players to buy it instead of just playing Halo 3? Would graphics enhancement alone be enough?
CoD has similar if not more severe issues. There has to be something new to get players to say: this is cooler than Ghosts (or BO2, or MW3, or whatever), so I'll switch to that. What should this "something" be? Next Gen graphics and that's good enough?
