So exheavyhippie posted his video about him losing a giant amount of weight. Good job bro! I figured I would see who else around here is living the lifestyle. Me, I have been a gym rat for the last 5 years straight, prior to that a couple years off and on. I didn't do it for weight loss reasons, I have always kind of been that skinny-ish guy. I have managed to put on about 25 LBS of muscle in that time and being 43 now is a pretty good amount for my age. I eat really clean, the low carb route, maintain about a 10%BF. I studied for my personal trainer certification but never went through with it as I didn't really see myself changing careers at this time in my life. Recently had to re-evaluate my routine and goals, I tore my rotator cuff and that took a while to heal and not fully there yet. Also being this age my joints were really hurting most of the time from heavy weights. My new goal is to drop BF to about an 8% before spring, gonna try and get looking like shredded cheese. This isn't a bragger post, plenty of people bigger, badder, stronger than me, it's just my lifestyle and interested if anybody else is or wants to. I have a reasonably decent sized e-book collection that I am going to put up somewhere to share in case anyone wants to take a look. I'll update this post when I do. So any one of you living this way? Any one of you want to start and need some guidance or tips? Share workout programs? My workout book collection, private boards

I highly recommend DDPYoga for both your joints and a low impact cardio routine. I will be posting my video updates and challenges here, so if you have a camcorder (or a good phone) be ready to be challenged!!!!

Hey just saw the topic guys I workout regularly as well. I have worked out most of my teenage and adult life. Iam going to compete in the mag man lifting competition this June at my gym. At this point I believe I can win. I weigh in about 175 I bench 275 squat 350 and dead lift 430 they base the competition off a lifting coefficient mine is approximately 6 to 7 right now. The guy who won last year lifts in the same weight group as me and won on a 5.9 coefficient which is still beast. I will post results after the competition. Exheavy hippie congrats on the weight loss I'm glad others work out in the clan regularly nice to know.

I used to work out and have recently got the bug again. Just ordered a trixter exercise bike for the lounge, so I can watch tv while getting fit. Win win. I am also starting insanity. I have some serious back trouble at the moment and will try to build up my stomach back and core to help. I will report back on my results.

Aroc, were about the same numbers on lifts and weight, i'm about 172 now and 165ish is the 8% goal. Although I don't deadlift because i'm missing a couple discs in my low back, L4-L5, L5-S1 is shot. Right now it's the no carb route, I can shed pretty fast doing that with not a lot of cardio because I hate cardio! Good luck with your competition! And chillz I can soooo relate to the back issues. I have had it most of my adult life and it sucks. Hitting that core has definitely helped me out but I am still limited on some things.

Its not like I am crippled or anything, nothing like that. Just a guy with a bad back. It doesn't stop me from doing stupid shit on a regular basis, just deadlifts

Good thread, just got around to this. I have lifted off and on for years. I tend to get involved with it, and then take a break for a while. I will say that I haven't done a max bench in a long while. I was doing a wrestling/bjj tournament a year ago, was in the heavyweight div, and had a 300lb guy roll onto my shoulder (I weigh around 220lb, i'm 6'2"). I developed what they call a frozen shoulder and it took a while to get it back. Ended up getting an MRI, but it was inconclusive, with possible injury on the labrum. So i just did rehab. No surgery. Bench pressing heavier weights got put on hold. I am in my 40's now, so I guess my shit is getting old and worn

What are you doing for your rotator cuff?
My history. I hurt my shoulder twice kayaking between like '03 and'07. Nothing major, just rested it. Then hurt it a few times benching over the decade. Again, rest made it better. But I felt like I was piling on accumulated damages. Then in the spring of 2013, I hurt it doing some sub grappling. Locked up with someone and rolled over, falling all of our weight onto my right shoulder. I got what was called a frozen shoulder. It literally wouldn't move. Took pain meds, and rest, and then got an MRI. They told me the labrum was 'inclusive' (even with the dye test), partial tear and a type 2 impingement. Elected to do rehab. Did that until last August. I went from like zero mobility to like getting 90/95% of my range of motion back... but... obvious lack of strength in certain ranges of motions.
I've been fussing with this ever since. What are you doing to help up or fix it?

Being an offensive lineman and still am. I had a 325 bench 445 squat 485 deadlify and 290 powerclean coming after last summer but blew my knee out for the second time even though it wasn't major just my meniscus again I pretty much lost all leg strength and my bench is steady around 295 again . Hopefully my NAIA level college football strength and conditioning coach will help me get back on track next year where in red shirting to get bigger. (280 right now) basically just lifted 4-5x a week rotation from pushes and pulls but only did bench and deadlift twice in a week. Every other lift was once a week to even out the muscle areas . Which varied from weighted step ups to curls to shoulder press to overhead squat. Pretty much did it all

Stone, the first thing I had to do was realize i,m 43, not 23. Powering through it doesn't work anymore. Once I was told that physical therapy was my route I told them thank you and see ya around. I an too familiar with my body and how it feels to go do rubber bandies and spinny twirlies when someone else says to. I have moved away from that 5 rep range all together for my whole body and everything is feeling better. The shoulders I went to 15-20 rep range and really light weight for a couple months but increased frequency to 3X a week doing a front, mid, rear each day. Recently throwing in some heavier weight and normal reps easing into it. Everything else I am in the 10-12 rep range but taking 3-5 seconds on the eccentric portion of the move. All the rage now is the time under tension and sarcoplasmic hypertrophy and for old guys it has really helped my joints and overall feel good. All in all I cant complain being almost 44 and almost down to 8% and feeling good. Its about no shirt weather here .

So you just did PT on your own?
I did PT for about four months or so. It helped, but I am not so sure it was all their techniques, but more so having a set schedule/routine of where I had to go 3/4 days a week to do stuff. Just doing stuff, stretching, doing anything by a forced schedule opened my shoulder up. But yeah, i did a whole host of silly stuff with the rubber bands and other crap. But by last July, I was at probably 85% to 90% range back, and doing Bikram Yoga this winter has so far really dropping the remaining difference. I hope to be grappling again this summer.
