THOUGHTS
Thought 1 - . Last night. We battled back pretty well Sunday night despite being shorthanded (fewer people playing) At one point, we did have a 'chance', a path where there was an opportunity to overtake the 2nd place clan in front of us. The goal were were working on most of the night was to piggyback on the two clans ahead of us and set ourselves up at round end playing to cap (and hold) three of the bigger nodes.
We almost pulled it off. We setup HC-TDM, Dom and KC all for the taking. We did end take all three of those nodes, getting ourselves to within 186 to 218 of TPABGaming. Mission accomplished. We were playing for round end, bonus points. That would have been +82 bonus points for round-end holding, while TPABGaming's bonus points would have been +52. It would have been very close, a 2 pt match, razor close. Unfortunately, the 4th and 5th place clans were playing too. One of them (not sure which) pre-knocked down our Dom node to early, forcing us to pre-move faster, and 420.Elite came back earlier than anticipated on KC, and well, that's what happens. The board was pretty active and KC got recapped by 420.Elite. Our late push to get it back fell short, mostly due to them capping & then defending it. HCTDM also got five clans playing on it, and our cap was lost. We lost two of our three nodes, and their bonuses. Oh well, those of us playing, we tried.
Thought 2 - My Squad? Coup, Witty, Chezie, Righteous, myself...the last group jumping in last as others paired up.....i'm proud of you guys. Not sure if you all will be reading this, but i truly mean that. We obviously didn't have the strongest group/squad playing. And we lost our first three games. But damn it, we battled back. We ended up winning our next five or six games in a row and we had some incredible teamwork and effort going on in those KC games (i think OhDerpie joined on the last few wins). And not one of you guys quit and best i could tell, not one of you even mentioned quitting. You guys showed a lot of heart.. That's what CoD is about, teamwork, having fun, doing your best.....not some KD ratio.
Thought 3 - So we got 3rd place. This will win some SWAG for people who hadn't finished it, but will be a bit of a setback in our push for the overall top ten. In this particular division/bucket (40-45), we were top ten, ranked #9. But 420.Elite.com was ranked #9 too (tied with us with 337 points). TPAGGaming was ranked too, but coming from a lower bucket. The other clans were supposedly ranked comparatively. We could have beaten 420Elite.com but they were the better clan this particular CW. They showed the better organization and other unique clan war variables to get shit done. We should have beaten TPAGGaming this go around even with our issues, but it is, what it is.
Thought 4 - As you become an elite level clan in the rankings leaderboards, you face better clans. That's how the matchmaking works. Survival of the fittest. And only those 'fit' clans, who can remain a team, keep their chemistry intact, kept their abilities to working together going, will be able to keep playing (and competing) in the upper echelon of the rankings. Fortunately (or unfortunately) we are ranked there now. Out of 35,000 plus Diamond clans, we are (or were) in the top 100 clans, and top ten in a few buckets/divisions.
But this ClanWar clearly exposed how devious these clan wars get, in exposing any and all cracks in a clan's armor. You NEED to have everyone, from first guy to last guy, playing one the same page and playing as one. 420.EliteGaming beat us 244 to 104 in round 1. The score that round 1 seemed large, but it was MUCH closer than many of you probably realize, as that 104 to 244 reflected end round bonuses. They only capped like two more nodes than us. And during round 1, we lost not one, not two, but three node races. We lost two of these node races in the last MINUTE. This was crushing. In one KC node race, where we lost to 420Elite.com, we lost like 57 to 61, where we had a squad win a KC game (mine), giving us +5 points, but only TEN SECONDS after 420Elite.com showed up capping it. Ten seconds was the difference. And the frustrating thing was, it was a game my squad had in the bag, but then ran long due to all but two opponent quitting. Four opponents quit in that game, leaving only two guys to kill, dragging the game out an extra two minutes. We could see the clock ticking, and it hurt. That killed it. This can be a seconds game, that is the difference at times between winning and losing. This type of "seconds" losses is soul crushing. Because while we are then refighting to knock the node down again, the other clan can go get positive points on another. Get three close losses in one round, its almost impossible to win it.
