FRIDAY, ROUND 1
To recap. Last Friday afternoon, , a few hours before the contest, the Diamond War pools were announced. Olmec told me (via this board), that THE "Lethal Gaming" was in our pool. Everything I posted above....well, I had been waiting YEARS for this moment. BeachHead studios handed us a great opportunity. To finally have an opportunity to get one of these high profile Optic/Nv/Lethal Gaming clans right smack in front of us, head to head, and give us a chance to test ourselves. ....and then I realized I had to go out with my wife to a concert. I couldn't be there Friday night.I couldn't be there to support you guys. Again, you have no clue how crushing that was to me.
Friday night. Round 1. I could only sit on the sidelines and read twitter feeds, see the clan app, and some random texts coming in over the evening, sneaking in peeks during the intermission of the concert (I saw David Garret, and it was a great show btw). Damn, I felt helpless. And then we had issues at the end of the Friday's sessions. Things didn't go well. People showed up late. Not very good participation. We got off to slow. Some of our guys were fighting. I felt terrible, because I know I could have helped with that. We were down 120 to 314. Down five nodes to two. Ouch. Beatdown.
SATURDAY'S SESSION (ROUND 2)
After yoga Saturday, I think I spent hours just reading and going over notes, planning and trying to predict what is going to happen Saturday night, and what we could do to be ready. Those of us who were there. We fucking regrouped. We came out swinging. I honestly think we ALL played our single best round of CoD Clan Wars to date. Serious props to you all. We had some infighting. We ran into a buzzsaw. People were late. 'Some' guys quit on us. We probably weren't ready for this level or type competition (getting good at this stuff takes a lot of time). BUT...Despite all of that, most all of you didn't quit, you fucking hung in there against the world's best clan. You guys kept fighting. You bros kept us in the game, got us to 2nd place. Props to you all.
Round 2. We played a flawless round of ClanWars. We actually beat Lethal Gaming by a score of 182 to 134 Saturday night. That was the first CW round they have lost all this year. Yeah, read that again. And we made that happen. We not only outscored them, but we also singlehandedly outplayed them all night long. AND WE DID IT, WITH 14 LESS PEOPLE. And then we ended the night with the FOUR nodes, to their two.
SUNDAY'S SESSION (ROUND 3)
After Sat night, I honestly didn't think we would have anything left in the tank. We closed the gap and now were behind by only 302-448. A 200pt deficit had been reduced to 146pts. But......our success had a cost. Going into Sunday's session, our position on the board was just flat out terrible. Lethal Gaming was set up to cap two nodes in ridiculously easy fashion within the first 20 minutes of the round. They were going to get +16 and like +30 immediately. They did. But we kept fighting. And despite the above easy pts Lethal got, let me say this. At the halfway mark Sunday night, around 9:05EST, we came back. Not only came back, but we were outscoring them 58-56 for the night. In fact, at one point, we had FIVE nodes, to their one node. But unfortunately, our node success came at a cost. We ran out of nodes to go after. We had most of them. Lethal regrouped and an in the last two hours, stepped it up. They scored 100 pts while we only scored 40. Then in the last 2 minutes, they snuck in a 14pt KCsmall move.
I thought we played really well Sunday night. I thought we played just as well as Saturday. We had 35/40 people to their 48 to 54 most all of Sunday. So yet again fewer people. But we capped three nodes Sunday night, and we still scored 90 points. We also finished the game holding three nodes too, tying Lethal. And our five node-hold earlier in the night at the halfway point, that got us like 8 bonus points for the Diamond Leaderboards. Wow. Impressive. What's even more impressive? After Friday night.... we played them pretty much even the last eight hours, the last two rounds. Lethal scored a total of 304 pts over those last two rounds, and we scored 272. And remember, 14 of those pts Lethal got were in the last minute of round 3. Take that away, those garbage points, and the two day total is 272 to 290.
Eight hours of intense competition, two rounds, and the points scored were 272 to 290.
SUMMARY
We lost. But we played well at times and had our moments. Especially winning round 2 outright. But we didn't play well the entire war. And our ongoing issue of having well under 70% participation ending up costing us badly as the war went on. You can't play top clans like that. Tactics can only carry the battle for so long. Ultimately, 90% to 100% participation will beat 60% to 70% participation every time.
